Coconut Kefir Culture Starter
Think of Coconut Kefir as the more tropical, dairy-free alternative to milk Kefir. It’s a lighter consistency, has an energizing fizz, and a refreshing tang. Coconut Kefir is a refreshingly zingy, effervescent, probiotic beverage that can be enjoyed as is or flavoured with fruits like raspberry or passionfruit. Coconut Kefir can also be used to ferment vegetables, nuts or as the starter for your sauerkraut.
Coconut water is rich in electrolytes providing ultimate hydration and is rich in potassium, sodium and magnesium. It can be very cleansing for the liver and provide much needed support for those hard working kidneys who are constantly working on electrolyte balance. Coconut water is high in sugar but by using our Coconut Kefir Culture Starter you can have all the benefits of coconut water and it's incredible hydration properties but without the sugar and the added bonus of a drink that is extremely high in probiotics.
We recommend using Cocobella Coconut Water brand for best results. While other brands may work, we cannot guarantee the same outcome. Most will be fine as long as the ingredients list 100% coconut water (not from concentrate).

You’ll receive our coconut kefir culture starter in a simple sachet;
- Add it to 2 litres of Coconut Water
- Leave it on your benchtop to ferment

Our cultures are live and active and may expand in their packets and be bubbly and fizzy when they arrive in the post. They may have even leaked a little into the outside packet. All of the above is perfectly fine and expected. It just shows how active and alive they are. Our cultures are very robust and are fine at room temperature so don't worry if they arrive warm. Once they arrive either pop them in the fridge if you are going to use them straight away or in the freezer if you need to store them for a while until you are ready to get your ferment on. Enjoy the process and have fun!!
